THC Poll: Is Humboldt’s homeless population shrinking?

LoCO ran a piece on Thursday focusing on the point-in-time report, which essentially said that the homeless population in Humboldt County shrank by 40% over the last year.

THC, as you may have guessed, thinks this is total bullshit. But, contrary to popular belief, it’s not only our opinion that matters, so we want to know what you think.

That’s right – time for another THC poll!

And yes, we know, it’s been too long since we ran a poll. Our apologies to those who’ve been requesting more. If you’ve ever got an idea for one, let us know!

As we all see from the poll, and street the representation that the numbers are down is a fabrication. We KNOW the numbers are way up, and it is great that some people feel what has been done has been effective, the representation is not factual. HC has , in fact, been doing less and less. I see staff misleading the elected officials as the most probable reason for reduced numbers. If these numbers were real, HC staff would be nationally in demand to coach other jurisdictions on proven methods. Simply reporting less is not effective. Homelessness will be with us forever. It’s so past time for HC to create permanent solutions… housing… and supportive housing… and low income housing… and affordable housing….. and emergency shelter… and housing for Vets, students, seniors, the disabled, families, children, the mentally ill, farm workers and all others that find themselves without warm, safe, dry shelter . pot permits should be funding farmworker housing in HC…. Why is it not?

Shrank by 40 % where exactly?? The zombie population behind the Mall is down 100%. So consequently the the population has dispersed though out the region, there for the population has increased everywhere.

Or the same people who took the polls for Hillary have found work in Humboldt.
