County CAO Smith-Hanes bailing for the Mid-West

THC just got wind from a number of reliable sources that Humboldt County’s Chief Administrative Officer Phillip Smith-Hanes has resigned his post with the County and will be relocating to somewhere out in the Mid-West.

Of course, there has yet to be an official announcement, so don’t throw him a going away party quite yet. It’s been rumored that Smith-Hanes has been seeking to head elsewhere (for a long time), but we kinda had him pegged for more of Florida Keys kind of guy as opposed to the Mid-West. The general assumption is that Hanes will seek a position in some form of government work in a place that isn’t so darn frustrating to manage.

However, it’s long been THC’s suspicion that Hanes has been nourishing his musically talented alter-ego and Youtube sensation, Ronald Jenkees, and is moving towards going full-time music star. If that is the truth, Phillip/Ronald, we are really huge fans, and jam on.

Hats and glasses can’t fool THC!

Now, the real question is – who could fill Smith-Hanes’ shoes? The B.o.S. rely on him like you wouldn’t believe; THC would not be surprised to see the County fall into further disarray and dysfunction when he takes off. Which is a scary concept, no?

In any case, as THC learns more of the situation we will keep you updated.

OK, I’ll delurk long enough to say Wow! Ronald Jenkees! I love people with more talent than standard polish.

John Chiv has reported that Smith-Hanes is definitely bailing on the ship he helped to sink. Let’s hope our Supervisors have the common sense to look elsewhere to replac him. I’ve heard rumors about a particular department head vying for the job who would just be more of the same incompetent mess.
