Workforce Development by Idiots

In a not-at-all-surprising move, the Humboldt County Supervisors have once again made some mind-boggling moves when it comes to drumming up jobs and improving the plight of the workforce.

The Board’s recent appointees to the Workforce Development Board (WDB) are experts – in holding jobs that bleed off the public coffers. The newest members of Humboldt’s favorite ineffective Board are former high school principal Rick Jordan, HSU Faculty member Robert Christensen, and Jim Wood’s legislative aide, DeAnna Sisk. Man, nothing like a bunch of public sector leeches to really give our faltering economy a boost, and our workforce a leg up.

Now, in the Supervisors’ defense, State law requires certain sectors to be represented on the WDB. (Shout-out to an unnamed County Supervisor for pointing out the State requirements in an e-mail to THC – turns out that at least one of them actually can read.) Which explains why the Supes’ hands were tied in selecting people who in all likelihood have never held a serious job in the private sector ever.

However, just because the Supes had to pick someone from the public side of things doesn’t mean they had to scrape the bottom of the frickin’ barrel.

Take good ol’ Rick Jordan, for example. Wanna know what he was doing last school year? He was the principal at Eureka High School. Wanna know where he’s at now? They sent him down to the sparkling educational institution that is Zoe Barnum School in Eureka. Generally, if you’re good at your job in that field, you don’t regress from High School. Maybe people figured he’s a better fit at Zoe since he has so much experience with kids getting shot at under his watch.

(Also, it’s important to note what a fantastic positive affect Jordan had on the educational standards of EHS. Check out this rather embarrassing look into how well kids were being taught under his watch according to the standardized tests last year, as reported by LoCO.)

So, after failing to properly educate the leaders of our future, he’s now been given a chance to screw up the workers of the present, too! Good call, Rex, Mark, Virginia, Estelle, and Ryan. Good call.

As for Rob Christensen, THC doesn’t even really get what his position is. Something to do with organizing student barbecues and  the Final Study Lounge. He does have a background in the social sciences – which I’m sure will be of major help to Humboldt’s economy. Right?

Last, and probably not least, is Deanna Sisk. “Not least”” is really saying something, too, since she’s a frickin’ legislative aide to Jim Wood. THC really hopes she can bring all the lessons she’s learned about efficiency and hard work from the State Assembly (HA!) and impart them to Humboldt’s troubled workers.

Thanks, Supervisors – things are really looking up with these appointments. Come see us in the welfare line once the AFSCME comes after your jobs this election cycle. (Their words, not ours!)

  1. By”their words” do you mean someone you presume to be an AFSCME member?

As founding member and President of the THClive fan club do I get to post with the THC avatar?

Remember, this is a trick question. If you say “no”. That means you are doubling down and means,in fact, I am speaking for you.

It’s a cool trick and makes debates (with onesself) really easy to win.

    You should try it.

  2. But wait there is more…

Good folks at THC, I wonder if things like this bother you. You are an anonymous person or group of people calling people you know almost nothing about idiots.

We know you will stand behind a lie as long as it supports your narrow world view. We also know that you believe that there is a double standard that should exist. If you work for, even for free, for a public institution, you can be judged by the standard…Have you held a “serious job” in private industry. No? You are an idiot.

    That’s your premise right?

Deanna (or is it DeAnna – you’ve spelt it both ways) is employed by Assemblyman Wood – a sector I guess would probably fall under the auspices of government (or at least related). I’m not sure what Rob does for work.

I do know they are both Democrats and I do know they are both good people who care about their community. I do happen to disagree with them on important local issues (including Deanna’s boss’ early support of Supervisor Bohn)

[…actually… Rob may be employed by Mike McGuire now – I don’t know this for sure – but state senator McGuire was also an early supporter of Rex.]

So, if there is a problem here, it’s a problem that our political system has broken down.

Upon announcing, Supervisor Rex Bohn (DTS), who you must understand is the most conservative of Supervisors, was endorsed by liberal Democrats (or at least hailing from relatively liberal Democratic constituencies) Wood and McGuire. To me, as a Democrat interested in democracy, this is outrageous.

To you, and everyone else, we should be concerned that we DO have and increasingly corrupt system of you-scratch-my-back that is inevitable under one party rule.

And right now, if we have Wood and McGuire endorsing Bohn, we have one party rule. (my bet is on Bohn as the one who contacted you)

So yes, THC, we do agree on the possibility of corruption, but the basic problem is that we have one party rule by default.

The other party, led by good folks with anti-government anti-labor ideas like yours, believe that government is best when it governs least AND it should be financed in a way that does not consider the inherent flaws in our economic system. I’m sorry, that is not an electable position assuming you have an educated citizenry.

That is a problem. Government should govern just like business should conduct business: and no, it’s not better when business people with financial interests of their own govern.

They are separate and this is a good thing. Public and private – each as an important role.

And yes, Mr and or Ms and or a group of Mr and Ms’s THC. Deana and Rob are good young people and I, for one, am proud to have them working for the Workforce Development.

Also, kudos to Rick Jordan for his work at both Eureka High and Zoe Barnum. I don’t know him, I wish him the best because we all want our schools to excel and serve our children and our community well. I betcha one thing that would help outcomes is more volunteer work and more focus on the importance of education from good folks like you all (or individual) at THC.

In sum THC – not the individual people, not the government, yes the system. We work on the system by getting involved. What is also great for the system is competition of ideas and it would be great if one of the necessary two parties (sorry for the bad news) would get their act together and re-join reality. Not lying and being real people with accountability would help with this.

Just because the party leaders lie about things like a video causing the murders in Bengazi, e-mails, keeping your doctors. just to name a few. you shouldn’t hold the entire party at fault.

  3. “lie about” … “video causing the murders in Bengazi.” OR lie about the illegal, endless and tax-payer supported political witchhunt.

“Republican-led report debunks Benghazi theories and accusations” (copy and paste in the Google – brings up important news item you seemed to have missed)

“Dems accuse GOP Leader McCarthy of admitting Benghazi panel is political” (copy and paste, the “Dems accuse” is only b/c this particular news item is from FOX.)

Since I am woefully ignorant concerning the personalities involved I can’t say one way or the other if the three people mentioned in the article are really such losers or not.

But I notice that THC failed to mention who else is on the Workforce Development Board. How many members are there in total? And are the rest Lee Ulansey clones?

I agree with Jon that having worked for the Government does not mean one is a total loser. I’ve worked for Governments, local businesses and massive corporations and one experience was no more stifling to my personal growth than another.

One is as likely to encounter saints, geniuses and innovators in one field as the others (in other words, good luck finding anything of the sort anywhere).

I agree with jon too. Being a government worker doesn’t make you a “total” loser…..just your regular, run of the mill loser. To be a total loser would take effort, something a government worker is unfamiliar with.

      • And I was wondering about that JDubs.

Thanks to THC’s omniscience we know this group of three are idiots. I’ve heard both Deanna and Rob speak and know that they are mental giants compared to me. What does that make me? It seems to me that one practical problem with THC’s system of human nomenclature is we are running out of nouns for the bottom rung.

I guess moron, but I think moron would classify higher than idiot. Knucklehead is definitely higher than both. I’m at a loss here. I guess that is to be expected from a <idiot.

        The Google helps…
"fool, ass, halfwit, dunce, dolt, ignoramus, cretin, moron, imbecile, simpleton; informaldope, ninny, nincompoop, chump, dimwit, dumbo, dummy, dum-dum, loon, dork, sap, jackass, blockhead, jughead, bonehead, knucklehead, fathead, butthead, numbskull, numbnuts, dumb-ass, doofus, clod, dunderhead, ditz, lummox, knuckle-dragger, dipstick, thickhead, meathead, meatball, wooden-head, airhead, pinhead, lamer, lamebrain, peabrain, birdbrain, mouth-breather, scissorbill, jerk, nerd, donkey, nitwit, twit, boob, twerp, hoser, schmuck, bozo, turkey, chowderhead, dingbat, mook; vulgar slangasshat"

        Wait…donkey?

Here is a list for the business class of entrepreneurs for THC.

"brilliant person, gifted person, mastermind, Einstein, intellectual, great intellect, brain, mind; prodigy; informalegghead, bright spark, brainiac, rocket scientist"

You are welcome THC guy/gal/guys. See even us chauwdahheads have good hearts. Hey, wait, are we putting too much emphasis on one aspect of talent? Nah, nevermind.
