Right now, in the Supervisor’s chambers in the courthouse, County departments are reporting on their budgets.
I was going to give you all a link to watch the live stream of the reports being given, but apparently the County doesn’t want us to watch them high-fiving and dancing while they laugh about how they totally fooled Eureka into approving Measure Z, the tax hike that was supposed to increase public safety. Funny, I could have sworn I heard something about massive budget cuts going on at the EPD and for emergency services.
Until I get my hands on a recording of the budget meeting, we’ll just have to put our heads together and imagine what nefariously moronic spending schemes they are giggling about in the Supes’ chambers.
So what do you think? Maybe the new County Counsel will ask for the funds to build a padded dance floor in their office. We wouldn’t want his department getting jealous of the Humboldt County Office of Education, who have their own such dance floor in the new building at 901 Myrtle Avenue in Eureka. Don’t worry, we will have the full scoop on that for you real soon.
Of course, this meeting won’t necessarily have a big impact on the way funds are spent in the next couple of years – you see, the budget for 2015-2016 has already been submitted for approval.
Which makes me wonder why in the heck we are wasting time and money by having the departments talk about all the glorious misuses of taxpayer money that are soon to come. But hey, if there’s one thing that our county government likes to do more than actually wasting our cash, it has gotta be talking about how they are going to waste it. And getting paid for doing so.
